Composting

NEW FOR FALL 2010:
Starting this fall, nearly everything in Essie Mae’s will be compostable.  That includes cups (coffee and plastic), lids (coffee cup and plastic cups), coffee cup sleeves, plates, napkins, straws, bowls, salad containers, take-out containers, and coffee cup take-out holders.  Pleas refer to the signs located in Essie Mae’s before throwing away your trash:

Also, ALERT ALERT:

Fruit scraps: You can now compost all fruit remnants in Sharples Dining Hall. These include: apple cores, pear cores, banana peels, orange peel, grapefruit peel, grape stems and melon rind. Please remove stickers and ensure that no other pieces of trash are placed in the compost bin along with the fruit.

Compost is collected and sorted bi-weekly by student Compost Managers. If you have any questions or concerns, contact Jean Dahlquist (jdahlqu1@swarthmore.edu).
